Consulting

We support our clients, with one to one seminar sessions, thru Skype and step by step we walk all the way to the point of successful implementation of all the techniques needed to color manage and calibrate monitors. We then also teach and consult Color grading basics, along with special CC techniques. The level of in depth seminars are related to the selected service package from Client. For Post Production facilities know how includes DI room setup, systems setup, Color grading techniques etc. Although our aim is not to substitute color grading education we do supply basically, all needed know how to perform the job successfully. Professionals will also be able to send us SMS for urgent requests of assistance.

Tools

There is a toolkit that is needed in order to perform the tasks of color management. The toolkit that we provide to Clients/Partners includes Apple Mac special color profiles, Profiling/Optimizing software, Screen backgrounds, reference frames and film leaders.

LUT Support

We are supporting Clients/Partners by creating for them all the custom LUT's needed to perform their work. The support is not limited to Film LUT's, we also supply REC709, DCP-XYZ, conversion LUT's for cameras like F3 or F35 S-Log, Alexa and many more, upon request for all systems available on market and for the defined period, with no extra cost.

LOG/Linear workflow support

Depending on the package that is being selected we offer both LOG and Linear workflows. Only for students our offerings are limited to Linear due to the much easier color management that is needed due to the less strict specs that are needed from monitors and probes.

Filmout trials

When a system is considered calibrated we need to perform a filmout trail to verify that all are OK and we have achieved the WYSIWYG target. This process might need one or two, or even more rarely three rounds to get it right. We do cover the costs depending on the level of collaboration with the Client/Partner.

Filmout Demo roll

The option is available only to DI Post Production facilities that need to have a demo roll to show to their clients as a marketing tool.

Subscription Renewal

The DI post facilities don't need to renew since our revenue comes from the filmouts that we do with them, so we are obliged to them to support them as long as we can. All other professionals and students are indirect clients, since we only do occasional Filmouts for them or even in the case of DIT's no filmout whatsoever. For that reason we can support them for a limited time of two years. To renew this service they have to pay the renew fee.

Generic & Conversion LUT's for Mac's

These LUT's are designed for the specific systems and monitors, are coming with a set of presets that have to be applied on the system to perform. Order your desired LUT for your MAC or your broadcast REC709 monitor, if its on the list, by selecting the fields below. The price is per LUT. Supported systems OS-X 10,6, MacBook-Pro 17" LED, Apple Cinema 27" LED and HD REC709 LCD or CRT's. Bare in mind the LUT's are build on order and send by email within 1 to 3 working days depending on the work load, from the order. More systems will be added in the future just ask us.

Generic LUT's are for the specific selections. Additionally S-Log is available only for REC709 monitors and not for Apple displays. Conversion LUT's are to convert the image that has being graded in the specified color space i.e. Kodak Cam Neg Film Log to DCP-XYZ or REC709. You can use the Kodak Cam Neg Film Log or the Cineon Log 6500K (HD) to grade on a REC709 footage from the new Technicolor Canon Log setup and then deliver even for DCP.

Another example is that you can use the S-Log -> Kodak CNF Log to Grade on a REC709 Monitor and then convert the result (without the LUT burned in the DPX's) to DCP-XYZ with the conversion LUT Kodak Cam Neg Film Log to DCP-XYZ. More info in the Tech Papers area.

Due to the rising demand for viewing and conversion 3D LUTs for S-Log capable Sony cameras, we  at Motion FX have prepared packages that including all LUTs needed to, a) view on a calibrated REC709 display device RAW S-Log material (viewing or monitor LUTs) and b) all conversion LUTs needed to convert RAW and color corrected S-Log material (using provided viewing LUT that's in the package) to REC709, DCP-XYZ, NTSC, PAL and for internet sRGB.

Our 3D LUT packages are better than the typical LUTs that float around, apart from the fact that are real 3D LUTs and not 1D that are available from Sony, because they allow a slightly different workflow from the typical "all REC709" workflow. By using them you can transfer the full color gamut of the S-Log to any deliverable medium in one conversion step and not through the intermediate step of REC709 even though you still working for viewing purposes on REC709 environment. In this way you get the maximum of the Log workflow and the versatility of a monitor system that you trust while accurately delivering content for the diversity of mediums that are requested every time, knowing that images you deliver will have every bit of information available transferred to your viewers.

Initially we have DaVinci LUTs for Cineon data target (a generic Log color space target) more options will follow including Avid LUTs, Apple Color, Black Magic HD Link and more, with targets including, apart from Cineon, Kodak and Fuji Film stock emulation. Remember not to hesitate to use the contact form on the left of the page to ask for targets and other formats apart from the ones listed in order to include them.

In the packages offered are included an S-Log to REC709 viewing LUT having as internal target the specified one (Cineon 6500K Log initially) and a series of conversion LUTs for DCP-XYZ, NTSC, PAL and for internet sRGB with lift correction. The typical uses are:

1. Load the viewing LUT on the software used i.e. DaVinci to see the image corrected (Linear).

2. While using the viewing LUT you can color correct the images and then render them by burning in the REC709 LUT to get the final result for HD, DVD and Blue Ray distribution.

3. Additionally when the color grading process has finished using the provided viewing LUT you can load, for example on DaVinci, the DCP-XYZ conversion LUT as an Output LUT and burn it in while rendering. In this way you get from RAW LOG material (that's full color gamut) to DCP in one conversion step and not in two that typically is done with regular REC709 process. In this way you get the maximum color gamut delivered respectively to each different distribution medium such as DCP, NTSC, PAL, HD and the internet.
